Consultation is at the very heart of the ESG ethos. From Day 1, the public has been kept fully informed of the proposals and invited to participate in the debate on how Hereford should move forward into the 21 st Century. This will continue. At each step in the redevelopment programme, the public will have the opportunity to express its views.

Following the launch in June 2007 of the Masterplan, 75% were in favour of the overall plan itself, whilst an overwhelming 85% expressed support for the Retail Quarter.

As a result of consultation, changes have been made to the Masterplan, which has now been adopted. Similarly, there will be further public consultation this summer and autumn on the proposals by Stanhope for the new Retail Quarter prior to a formal planning application; the plans for Blackfriars Urban Village, and the flood prevention scheme on the Yazor Brook as well as the proposed Transport Hub.

A number of businesses in the ESG area will have to relocate to make way for the development and ESG is liaising closely with the newly formed ESG Businesses Association, representing those firms involved, to help ease the burden of moving. The latest platform is a Stakeholders Forum, with an independent chairman, Mike Ashton, Chief Executive of Hereford and Worcester Chamber of Commerce, with representatives from a cross section of city groups and organisations, coming together regularly to discuss the merits or otherwise of each aspect of the regeneration project.
