Your Hereford
After years of planning, consultation and asking local people what they want and need for the future, Hereford is ready to be revitalised.
People are excited about the thousands of new jobs and new opportunities for prosperity that will be created by developments like ESG and the Rotherwas Business Park. There is also widespread support for modern, new multi screen cinema, new homes for local first time buyers, a second river crossing and improved roads and reduced traffic congestion.
In fact, the new vision for Hereford will create more than enough jobs to potentially secure full employment in our county. This, supported ny exciting new leisure facilities, a higher education campus and affordable housing is key to helping Herefordshire retain its talented young people for the future.
The vision depends on private investment brought in by high quality department stores, household name shops and new restaurants, cafes and bars complementing the fine range of independent and national outlets already trading in the city centre.
However, you may be asked to sign a petition that seeks to stop the revitalisation of Hereford. You may be told there is a threat to local shops, but independent studies have shown that more choice will bring in more shoppers, which in turn, will support existing local businesses.
The new vision for Hereford means shoppers will be able move quickly and freely between the historic city core and other retail areas. And plans to refurbish the iconic Buttermarket and revamp Widemarsh Street will achieve an attractive and enhanced shopping experience.
Everyone wants to keep the best of Hereford. That includes not only safeguarding our heritage and good independent shops, but also providing an attractive reason for our talented young people to stay here, close to their families, in Herefordshire. It is not just today's generation we need to consider, but future generations too. No one really wants Hereford to miss its once in a lifetime chance to regain and retain its rightful position as a vibrant economic centre in the region.
By supporting Hereford you will support a bright new future that will provide more prosperity, more choice, more excitement, more fun and many more opportunities for you and your children. Hereford is a very special city, and Herefordshire is a unique county. Its people deserve to thrive and prosper in the 21st Century.
