Versions of the Masterplan and Masterplan Executive Summary will be available to download from this site from that date. We would, however, advise against opening the files and simply download them, particularly the Masterplan itself, as this may take a very long time!
The consultation questionnaire will also be available from the launch date (3rd July,) and further information on this will be available soon.
In 2006, ESG appointed a consortium comprising Urban Initiatives, CZWG, Crowd Dynamics and Giffords, to undertake a review of the previous Masterplan in order to take the document forward to the level of detail required to guide future development.
The masterplan revisions will be launched in June/July this year, but glimpses of work in progress are available below. This work does not introduce radical new concepts into the masterplan – that is not its purpose.
The emerging masterplan strongly supports the earlier vision of downgrading Blueschool Street/Newmarket Street and constructing a new link road running from Station Approach to Edgar Street, with a new junction being formed north of the football ground. The plan also supports the concept of developing an Urban Village north of Blackfriars, and a city centre expansion zone north of Blueschool Street/Newmarket Street which will include a significant amount of retail and leisure uses on the site of the existing livestock market and adjoining land to the east.
