Get Involved

For many of you studying geography, ‘regeneration’ forms part of your curriculum. ESG offers an opportunity to study a real life regeneration project at first hand, not just text book examples. Ask your teachers about getting involved.
ESG is also backing the bid for a higher education site (University of Herefordshire) and has proposed a site on Blackfriars Street which Herefordshire Council has strongly supported by allocating land and buildings for this. Keeping young people in the county is very important but it would create big opportunities for older people as well who haven’t had the chance to go to university before.
Do you think a university in Hereford is a good idea?

Herefordshire loses many of its brightest young people because of a lack of local job opportunities. It is estimated that 1,500 new jobs will be created over the next 10 years. Skills in the construction industry will be vital and ESG is also investigating establishing a National Skills Academy for Construction (NSAfC) through partnership with other organisations/projects.
Are you interested in training in construction skills?
Once the development is complete there will be other jobs in retail and tourism all boosting the local economy.

ESG is looking for young people who are interested in the project and believe it will improve the city in which they live in. We are looking for volunteer ESG Ambassadors to join us in spreading the word about the benefits of the scheme. This involves going out and about talking enthusiastically to other groups of young people about the exciting plans. There may also be the opportunity to get involved in video work and provide support in updating this web site. If this is of interest please send an email to enquires@esgherefordshire.co.uk

Here is the estimated time line for the ESG project for the next few years:

How about drawing one for yourself for the next 10 years? It's a good tool to use when you think about what you want to do in the future and how you are going to get there. Give it a go and if you are happy to do so, why not post it on the site to share with others.
Send your timelines to julia.lawrence@esgherefordshire.co.uk
We want your time capsules to show how you envisage Hereford in the future
Another way of planning and seeing if you achieve what you set out to do is to create a time capsule. In it you could put things that represent and remind you of Hereford/Herefordshire today, plus ideas of what you would like to see in 10 years time (this could be on paper or a CD - Be Creative!). If you are interested as an individual or if there is a group of you who would like to do it together, email us. ESG will be finding a place to bury these capsules, and it will be exciting in 10 years time to unearth them to see if the aspirations for you and the county match the reality.
